… The recycled black walnut tree – about 60 years old – that provided the beautiful strongly grained wood for this sculpture had roughly a 24” diameter trunk and was about 40’ tall. Unfortunately, it had to be removed for widening a road. Some of its rustic exterior has been preserved to add character to the art. Most imperfections have been strengthened, sealed and smoothed with epoxy.
… A smooth and glossy shellac like finish protects this platter's outside and a food safe odorless and tasteless mix of special oils and waxes protects the inside so it can hold and display anything but liquids or very moist items.

The beauty of your art piece will best be maintained by periodically gently removing dust with a very soft brush on a vacuum cleaner, and perhaps occasionally rejuvenating the finish with a very light coat Howard Butcher Block – a food grade blend of tasteless and odorless mineral oil & natural waxes.
2. Display this treasure where it will be protected from sun, chemicals, moisture and damaging heat. No wood likes direct sun, because strong light fades rich colors (of course, some colors inevitably change over time).
